Central
India once presinting and almost contiguous realn
for tiger's, and even now, dspite extensive deforest
station and human satalement, seven of India's 27
tigers reserves are located here. Maharastra and
Madhapradesh share the page tiger reserve in the
southern, loer riches of the Satpura hills less than
90 km North of Nagpur city. In madhapradesh, the
reserve is nearly 758 sq-km, while the Maharastra
area is 257 sq-km. All though a contiguous toger
habitat, and together declered as a countrie's 19
tiger reserve in 1992, the too areas are
administered severalty.

The
reserve gets is name from the Pench River.
Characterized by a low, hilly landscape covered with
mixed-deciduous forest the region has sonic gold
teak plantations and ragingly marks the northern
limit of the tree. Bamboos stand at to the charm of
the setting. Although there are several perennial
pools many rivulets dry up in summer. Together with
the many smaller strums, thay form a perfect
environment for the tigers.
Towards the sourthern margin of Madhya Pradesh's
Pench tiger reserve, the reserve created by the
Totladoh hidroelectric project covers, at maximum
capacity, well over 65 sq-km of rich natural
habited. How ever, over time the water - body has
became a majour draw for wildlife, including the
water birds, seen in profusion during Winter. The
region has more than 200 hundred spacies of birds.
In Pench Cheetal, Sambhar, Nilgai are commonly seen
grazing on the open sites on road sides and banks of
river and reservoir. Jackls can be seen in serch of
food any where in the park. Packs up to 15 of wild
dog can be seen near Chhedia, Jamtara, Bodanala and
Poiorthadi arise of the Reserved. Herds of gaur can
be spotted near streams and bamboo paches commonly
in summer months. Sloth bear occupy hilly, rocky out
crops and fiber mahul bel infested forest. Langoors
are very common in Pench, where as the Rhesus
monkeys may be seen occasionally on the fringes.
Commonly seen are Peafowl, red jungle fowl, Crow
pheasant, Crimson breasted barbet, Redvanted bulbul,
Racket tailed drongo, Magpie Robin and lesser
whistling teal.

It
is best with forests spread in all the
direction. As per the physiognomy, the forest
type is southern tropical dry deciduous teak
and southern tropical mixed beciduous forest
with other species of shrubs, trees and
climbers. Teak and its associated moyan, mahua,
mokha, skiras, tandu, biza, achar, garai,
aonla, ghont, baranga, amaltas, kihamali,
khair, palas. Bamboo occuras sparcely

The
Pench National Park is very rich in fauna and
number of endangered spacies have made it
there habited. There are around 55 tigers
under this umbrella of the park. 39 species of
mammals, 13 spacies of reptiles, 3 spacies of
amphibians and over 210 veritys of birds have
already being listed.

The
Pench National Park is open to the visitors
from 1st November to 30th June each year and
closed during the rainy seasons (July to
September).
